Walt Disney sought to make his version of The Jungle Book a lot more upbeat than the Rudyard Kipling penned. The songwriters wanted a jazz sound, with a Dixieland like melody. When the idea for I Wanna Be Like You was first thought up they married this with the image of an ape who swings from a tree, and hes the king of the apes. And the famous scene was born.
